About us

Međimurje Nature – Public Institution for Nature Protection was established in 2005 by Međimurje County based on Nature Protection Act. The institution pursues the activities of protection, maintrance, promotion of protected areas and NATURA 2000 sites in Međimurje County. It intends to conserve the originality of nature primarily through ensuring the well-functioning of natural processes and sustainable use of natural resources. It supervise the nature protection measures implementation in protected areas of Međimurje County. Also, participates in habitat and species data collection intending to determine their conservation status.

Međimurje Nature cooperates with numerous entities and factors in the process of nature protection. At the national level, nature protection is the responsibility of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition.

Međimurje Nature is open to various types of cooperation, in accordance with budgetary and operational possibilities, and in accordance with the Nature Protection Act and other acts that define nature protection activities.

Međimurje Nature has participated in several projects important for improving the management of protected areas at the local and regional level, cooperating with county public institutions for nature protection that manage the Regional park Mura-Drava and partner nature protection institutions. Therefore, Međimurje Nature has experience in the preparation and implementation of European Union projects, especially regarding transnational projects that include cooperation and partnership with other EU institutions.

Visitor center is imbued with love for Međimurje’s natural heritage and the need to preserve it. It is located in the headquarters of Međimurje Nature – Public Institution for Nature Protection.

On the ground floor of the Center, there are two modernly equipped galleries with a permanent interpretation display, a souvenir shop and an entrance info desk. In the vicinity of the Center, there is an interpretation log cabin “Moj hrast Adam” and a children’s playground “Rječica”.
