European Green Belt

Europski zeleni pojas (European Green Belt) proteže se kroz 24 europske države, od Barentsovog do Crnog mora. Zeleni pojas uključuje područja granice bivše „Željezne zavjese“ koja je dijelila Europu na dva odvojena politička bloka. Zbog političkih sukoba u toj zoni nije bilo gospodarskih ulaganja te je priroda ostala očuvana, pa sada to područje predstavlja prirodnu i krajobraznu vrijednost.

Hrvatski dio zelenog pojasa obuhvaća rijeke Muru, Dravu i Dunav, duž granice Mađarske i Hrvatske, te uključuje i otočje Brijuni na jadranskoj obali. Hrvatski zeleni pojas dio je Europske ekološke mreže Natura 2000 te UNESCO-vog petodržavnog rezervata biosfere Mura Drava Dunav. 

Zeleni pojas u Međimurskoj županiji obuhvaća tokove rijeka Mure i Drave.
